What is OPRA?
The Open Public Records Act (OPRA) is a New Jersey law that provides the public with access to government records maintained by public agencies, unless the records are exempt by law.
What records can I request through this portal?
This portal may be used only to submit OPRA requests for records maintained by the City of Clifton, Passaic County, New Jersey. Requests for records held by other agencies must be submitted directly to those entities.
Where can I find City Council meeting agendas and minutes?
All City Council meeting agendas and minutes are available on the City of Clifton’s official website at www.cliftonnj.org. These records are publicly available and do not require an OPRA request.
Where can I find City ordinances?
City of Clifton ordinances can be found on the City’s website at www.cliftonnj.org, under the e-Code section. These records are publicly available and do not require an OPRA request.
Where can I find financial documents such as budgets?
Financial documentation, including adopted budgets and related financial records, can be found on the City of Clifton’s official website at
www.cliftonnj.org. These records are publicly available and generally do not require submission of an OPRA request.
Will I receive confirmation after submitting an OPRA request?
Yes. After submitting a request, you will receive an email from the Clifton City Clerk assigning you an OPRA request number. You will also receive a second email requiring you to confirm your Public Records Portal Account within 24 hours.
How do I track my OPRA request?
- Once your account is confirmed, you may log into the portal at any time to
- View your submitted request(s)
- Check the status of each request
- Review communications from the City
- Access any records that have been provided
How long does it take to receive records?
OPRA requests are generally fulfilled within seven (7) business days, unless the request requires additional time due to volume, complexity, or legal review.
